ACUA is a non profit Ukrainian arts organization. It is the mandate of ACUA to facilitate and encourage greater appreciation and awareness of all the Ukrainian arts and their cultural significance. Emerging from the spectacular Ukrainian cultural event, Festival '88, The Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts has been celebrating Ukrainian arts for over twenty years. ACUA was founded in 1986, and came together as a volunteer council to interest visual and performing artists in their Ukrainian identity in order that their creativity stimulate growth of Ukrainian culture in Alberta. Through exhibitions, tours, festivals, educational programs, workshops, and special projects, ACUA promotes growth and provides support to the Ukrainian arts and artists living in Alberta.

The residency program is designed to promote artists of Ukrainian heritage, and to introduce non-Ukrainian heritage artists to Ukrainian arts and culture. The ACUA Residency program aims to give artists the time needed to focus on their project. We encourage all artists, working in: painting, drawing, sculpture, performance art, video, installation, photography, mixed media, music, and poetry.

Through the ACUA Residency program residents are provided with the opportunity to work with our Gallery, live and work in Edmonton, develop their individual projects and immerse themselves in the Ukrainian-Canadian atmosphere that ACUA fosters. The resident will also have the opportunity to critiques and mentorship given by the various artists the the ACUA Gallery represents.

ACUA provides access to a 13 X 8 f studio space with private sink in the ACUA Gallery. There is also a larger workshop room available for period usage. Office facilities include camera, printer, scanner, projector, access to WiFi, and a small reference library. The Gallery has access to washroom and small kitchenette (fridge and microwave). The staff at the ACUA Gallery provide support regarding local information such as transport and materials.
