Founded in 1855 this society's purpose was to give female artists a platform to show their work which was otherwise denied to them. The SWA remains an important platform for female artists today and holds an annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries in which members get to show their work alongside non-member whose work is selected in an open-call. There is also an array of cash and other Prizes to be won.
