Edinburgh Art Festival invites proposals from artists, curators and organisations working in the field of visual culture (and who do not have a year-round exhibition programme) to participate in the 13th edition of Edinburgh Art Festival. Proposals should be for one-off projects or events conceived specifically for the Festival, and that demonstrate a high degree of artistic quality, both in the content and presentation of the project.

Proposals will be assessed on the basis of quality and the extent to which they meet the criteria outlined below. Submissions are reviewed by a panel consisting of the Festival Director, Sorcha Carey, the Edinburgh Art Festival Programming Committee, and Sophia Hao, Curator of Cooper Gallery, Dundee.

Selection Criteria

1. All proposals must demonstrate a high degree of artistic quality, both in content and presentation of the project.

2. Proposals will need to have been conceived specifically for the Festival; AND/OR represent a significant development in the work or ambitions of the artist or organisation involved; AND/OR encourage audiences to enjoy new or potentially challenging work.

3. Proposals are only accepted from organisations that do not already have a year-round programme of exhibitions and events. Organisations with a year round presence should contact info@edinburghartfestival.com for information regarding alternative ways to participate.

4. Proposals should address how the presentation of work might engage new and existing audiences, and demonstrate a commitment to equality of access for all audiences.

5. Proposals should address the practicalities of showing in Edinburgh in August, including a proposed or confirmed venue. Successful applicants will need to confirm venues by end March 2016. Edinburgh Art Festival is unable to provide venues, but can offer advice and relevant  contacts for potential spaces that might be available.

6. We only accept proposals for projects taking place within the City of Edinburgh (as defined by the boundaries of City of Edinburgh Council). However, proposals for projects a short distance away may be considered where the proposal includes provision of dedicated direct transport  from an Edinburgh city centre location.
