CALL FOR VIDEO SUBMISSIONS

DEFIBRILLATOR GALLERY is now accepting Video proposals for our fifth annual RAPID PULSE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART FESTIVAL to be held JUNE 1-5, 2016. Marking our five-year anniversary, Rapid Pulse will depart from our usual template which aims to nurture and reflect on the exchange of new experiences. We continue to focus on contextualizing performance within visual art by representing a wide range of styles and forms of time-based expression. RAPID PULSE 2016 will present dynamic programming, decidedly fearless and unique, that provokes thought and stimulates discourse surrounding performance art. This year we celebrate the importance of the number five, having condensed the festival into a five day program with five distinct events each day.

Because of the condensed scale of the 2016 festival, we will only accept a limited number of videos to fit within a set curatorial framework. Preference will be given to work meeting the following criteria:

Videos of ten  minutes or less

Work that reflects one of the five specific curatorial focuses.

Work made specifically for the camera (performance documentation is not our focus, however in unique circumstances we will consider high quality video of work that is impossible to present live due to site specificity, duration, scale, unique materials, etc.)

Video installation proposals will not be accepted.

The 2016 Video Series  Programs:

1. HOMAGE: AVANT-GARDE PERFORMANCE

This program looks at work from the historical avant-garde for inspiration: to honor, respect, and revive work made in this tradition.

2.  TRACES OF THE ABSENT

This program focuses on the relationship between presence and absence through human action.

3. THIS IS NOT SEX

This program explores the intersection of sexuality and performance art.

4. PERFORMING THE PORTRAIT

This program looks at work that explores identity and what it means to be human.

5. GLOBAL CITIZEN

This program looks at work that explores a globalized society, the wandering nature of performance art, and the relationship to location; work that emphasises the human desire to inhabit, migrate, and create work beyond borders in both inclusive or restricted territories.

DEADLINE is MIDNIGHT 31 DECEMBER, 2015 (North American Central Standard Time). Proposals must be submitted electronically through this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1WaQeOwe0-Pc0_W5OSguSd7ZHUk-wZnDEI4nY8LL_tcI/viewform">VIDEO APPLICATION.
