anti-utopias, the curated contemporary art platform and thematic archive, is looking for international critics and art writers who wish to contribute with professional materials to the editorial section of the platform and reach a dedicated international audience.

We are looking for high quality theoretical articles and essays, extensive theoretical book and exhibition reviews, artist presentations and artist interviews, with particular focus on photography, video art, new media art, digital art, bioart and installation art, from contemporary art to critical design, architecture criticism, fashion and technology. International MA and PhD level researchers are particularly encouraged to submit critical, academic level essays in art criticism, curatorial studies and specific research topics in the field of contemporary art. We strongly encourage materials which have not been previously published elsewhere; on rare occasions, depending on editorial considerations, republications will also be considered - in such cases, the author is fully responsible for granting us the rights to republish the material and we will make sure to provide full information about any previous publication.

Articles are not limited in length or specific subjects, but should address one of the structural subjects of the archives: Bodies, Identities, Narratives, Spirituality, Politics, Globalization, Technologies, New Natures, or Structures, Objects, and Representations. We are ideally looking to publish extensive theoretical, academic level articles and essays, professional book and exhibition reviews, therefore short or journalistic pieces are of secondary importance to us.

As the project is looking to expand its geographic reach in Asia, the Middle East, South America, and Eastern Europe, articles addressing contemporary art or critical design in these areas are strongly encouraged.

Articles or proposals should be submitted in English as Word or editable PDF documents, and include the author's narrative biography / resume or statement and contact information. In the case of final pieces, please make sure to include full footnotes / endnotes and bibliography / references to be mentioned, image captions / credits. We encourage articles that are accompanied by images - images need to be saved at 72 DPI and a width of 1600 px, or sent in high res and we will make sure to prepare them accordingly. Author's portrait needs to be sent separately from the text, together with the accompanying images. If selected, your article will be published immediately in full length and we will closely collaborate with authors to ensure the materials are technically and editorially prepared according to our platform's requirements.

While contributions are not remunerated at this time, we are looking for close collaborators who will eventually join our project as associate editors and be part of our international projects, for which some financial opportunities might be available. Please note our audience consists mainly of artists, curators, theoreticians, gallerists and art institutions; this might provide increased visibility for authors and further possibilities in the case of successful applications. In addition, we are looking to publish a catalogue of the best articles submitted to us; conceived as a professional research instrument, the catalogue will provide a relevant side-tool to be used as part of future conferences, publications or exhibitions developed by us or in collaboration with our institutional partners. Any articles published as part of the catalogue will be remunerated with a standard fee, to be announced to authors prior to publication.

Pleae make sure to browse our website to find out more about anti-utopias and contact us if you need further information at hello@anti-utopias.com. You will work in close collaboration with the platform's curator and editor-in-chief and we are looking forward to innovative approaches, proposals and submissions. We reserve the right to decline proposals or articles that for various considerations do not fit our editorial program - in such hopefully rare cases, authors will be notified and submitted materials will never be published in any form.
