In a park looking over the Lagoon, Venice's Casa dell'Ospitalità provides shelter for twenty men from among the 100+ homeless people who live in the Trust's various facilities. From the Casa dell'Ospitalità one's gaze takes in the sweep of the Northern Lagoon: abandoned islands, old industrial structures, the airport, the Ponte della Libertà, the outline of the mainland conurbation. You can sometimes be surprised by the wind suddenly freeing from the clouds the whole panorama of the Dolomites.

The Casa dell'Ospitalità is a port in a storm: it can be reached by specific routes but more often on unplanned and unpredictable tides.

During the Residence the artist will be a guest among our guests.

Will the intrinsic energy of art be able to trigger new dynamics and open up unexpected relationships with the men living in the San Alvise hostel?

Will it be able to introduce to a Venice oblivious of such a world this space suspended between water and sky and land, an ideal point from which to see ourselves, the city and the world with new eyes?

RESIDENCE: From 18th of September until 4th of October 2015

JURY: The jury will be composed of Daniela Rosi (art curator), Silvia Grimaldi (art curator) and Gabriele Soave (Artist).

OPEN TO: All kinds of artists (figurative, plastic, video, illustrators, poets, musicians, performative, theatre, photographers, etc.) 18 years+, no upper age limit Males (The guests of the Casa dell'Ospitalità are all male and it has seemed sensible, regrettably, to exclude the participation of female artists) Also excluded are residents of Venice and other artists living in the town and the surrounding area

REQUIREMENTS: Each Artist can submit only one Project. Each Project must be represented in images illustrating the concept, the way the project will interact with the community and how a final event might be configured. Each Artist has to include, in their Glossom profile, their Curriculum Vitae and/or a link to a website where a CV can be found. Each Artist can submit a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 Images Each Image will need: - a Title; - a short Description (in English); - the #bedandartspecialevent tag A short video outlining the project will be highly appreciated.

SELECTION CRITERIA: IN THE COMMUNITY: the Art Project has to be able to interact with the local Homeless Community, living in the House of Hospitality. AWAY FROM STIGMA: The Art Project is expected to propose an alternative view of the community of the homeless living in the House of Hospitality. OPEN DOORS: the Project must propose a "special event" (Final Event) designed to involve a larger number of people (interaction between the local community, the artist and the rest of Venice). RULES AND CONDITIONS: During the Residence the Artist will be expected to interact with the local homeless community, living in the House of Hospitality and respecting the local community rules. The artist will have a private room and a private bathroom inside the Casa dell'Ospitalità. The artist will have the possibility of eating with the local community (alternatively, the Artist can use the kitchen by himself). The artist will have the support of the social workers of the Casa dell'Ospitalità Trust. The artist will have a maximum amount of €1,000 for his needs during the Residence.
