Call for Embedded Summer 2015

For the Summer 2015 Embedded residencies, we are delighted to announce partnerships with Lichfield Festival and Red Note Ensemble. The deadline for both these opportunities is noon Wednesday 3 June 2015. Apply here: http://soundandmusic.org/embedded-summer-2015

Lichfield Festival  brings the best national and international artists and performers to the West Midlands each year for a summer celebration of classical music (old and new), dance, drama, film, jazz, literature, poetry, visual arts and world music. As part of the Embedded programme, Sound and Music and Lichfield Festival are offering an opportunity for one composer to spend up to eleven months in residence at the festival.

The aim of the residency is for the selected composer to connect broadly with the local community, to create a context for new work which engages with existing and new festival audiences. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to this year’s Lichfield Festival (3-12 July 2015) and will be able to refine their ideas after experiencing the festival for themselves.

Red Note  Ensemble is Scotland’s contemporary music ensemble, commissioning and performing new music from Scotland and around the world. Building off the success of the first Red Note Embedded residency with Thomas Butler producing Elbow Room, we are pleased to announce a new residency for a composer to create new work with the ensemble. This opportunity would suit someone with ideas and ambition across all aspects of contemporary music performance, for example someone who aspires to setting up their own new music ensemble, or who has an interest in producing, as well as composing, new music.

The selected applicant will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Red Note’s activities, spending at least two days a month (on average) with the ensemble, in addition to writing time, which could include getting involved with regular nights in city venues or rural touring.

 About the Programme

Embedded is a Sound and Music composer and creative artist development programme. Funded by The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Embedded places a selection of composers from a range of disciplines into extended relationships with leading national arts organisations.

Aimed at talented composers and creative artists, Embedded is a bespoke programme, providing practical hands-on experience and a range of significant creative opportunities. So far over forty composers have benefited from Embedded, and there is overwhelming evidence that it can be a transformational experience in terms of talent development, artistic ambition, professional experience and growing networks.
