PROPOSALS ARE INVITED FOR NEW OR RECENT WORKS IN THESE

THEME:

The Riddle of the Sphinx re-examines the meaning of the human being through his position in space, time, history, that is, his identity:

a. his far away past with its values, clashes, the civilization he created

b. the present society, current challenges and socio-economic clashes, contemporary cultural flows and fusions (cultural expansion, immigration), the role of technology, communication and Internet, the force of the present political power, genetic science, astrophysics and space exploration, artificial intelligence, artificial conscience etc. 

c. The proposals about the simultaneous presence of present/future/ past in our redefined space-time example. 

CATEGORIES:  

1. VISUAL EXHIBITIONS

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION:
• Maximum size painting – photograph - collage: to 100x100 cm.
• Maximum size sculpture - relief - construction: to 100x100x50 cm.
• Digital size for the selection of participation: at least 1500x1500 pixels

• File type (extension): jpg.

2. SCULPTURES IN CONVERSATION WITH VENUES OF CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION:
•Description-summary of entry to 120 words
•Maximum size of sculptures 150x150x300 cm.
•For the selection, there must be 3-5 characteristic images from different sides, of digital size at least 1200x1200 pixels / jpg.

3. DIGITAL IMAGES

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION:
General Feature: Dimensions sculpture 6 m high - wings with square surface of 1 sq.m. for the images projection.
• Digital image dimension: 1x1m
• Digital image resolution: up to 200 pixels / dpi.

• Digital size for the selection of participation: at least 1200x1200

• File type (extension) jpg

Digital final image analysis: at least  200 pixels / inche
Digital size: minimum 3330x4700 pixels.

6. HAPPENINGS

- Action description in 300 words, venue selection in the city (see interactive map), visual material, drawings, etc. Documentation of the action and relevance to the topic is important.

SENDING PROPOSALS (ENTRY FORM AND DOCUMENTATION) 

• Creators can send up to two proposals, filling in a separate entry form for each work. The entry form must be in ENGLISH.

INSTALLING WORK

The team of Sphinx 2015 is responsible for installing and de-installing the works of art, unless the artists themselves would like to be present.

FUNDING & SUPPORT

SPHINX 2015 Festival will support efforts to obtain outside funding. Limited funding may be available for the winners of the first prizes in certain categories. Costs for shipping the works are the responsibility of the artist. Sphinx 2015 is responsible for the installing costs. Every effort is made to protect artworks during the exhibition, but we are not liable for damage. 

The artworks will remain after the exhibition period in the jurisdiction of the Sphinx organization to be re-exhibited without economic profit in the future. In any other presentation of each artwork the name of the artist will be displayed.

PROGRAM 

SPHINX 2015 Festival is scheduled to take place in Thebes, in Viotia, Greece, from May to November of 2015. Selection and programming is decided only by the festival’s curators. Τhe festival has the right to reject a work without any further explanation. The festival reserves the right to cancel, postpone or relocate a scheduled event or the entire festival due to force majeure or other critical reasons, without any further obligations. 

COPYRIGHT RELEASE 

By submitting the entry form, you accept the festival’s regulations and permit:

• The free presentation of the whole or part of the proposed work in the context of SPHINX  2015 Festival and in future presentations and events organized or curated by SPHINX Festival

• TV broadcast of the submitted work (or part of it) for promotional purposes

• Presentation of the proposed work (or part of it) on the festival’s website  http://www.sphinx2015.com/">www.sphinx2015.com

• Publication of photographic material (or video still for video works)  in festival printed material, the festival’s website and press media

• Publication of the texts enclosed to the proposal (cv, synopsis, etc.)

• Archival, non-profit usage of the proposed work by the festival

Please read carefully entry rules and regulations and fill the entry form. Works submitted without the festival’s official entry form will not proceed for selection. The same if the entry form is semi-completed.
