Embedded is a Sound and Music composer and creative artist development programme. Funded by The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Embedded places a selection of composers from a range of disciplines into extended relationships with leading national arts organisations. Aimed at talented composers at an early stage in their career, Embedded is a bespoke programme, providing practical hands-on experience and a range of significant creative opportunities. So far over thirty composers have benefited from Embedded, and there is overwhelming evidence that it can be a transformational experience in terms of talent development, artistic ambition, professional experience and growing networks.

This residency will offer an opportunity for an early career artist to develop their skills through connecting with and contributing to the work of the Music Hackspace, and allowing both partner organisations to benefit from a sustained relationship with a composer. The selected artist will spend time engaging with the members of the Music Hackspace, their projects, research and outreach work, before using the context and resources of the organisation as a starting point/inspiration for the development of new music or sound-based work for a range of contexts.

The opportunity is focused on artistic development, and the successful applicant will be encouraged to explore their ideas and creative practice. We want to foster networks between Embedded composers and creative discussion across musical disciplines, so the opportunity also encompasses sessions where all the current participants in our Embedded residencies meet and share ideas.
