The NODE Space in Aalto University’s Arabia Campus in Helsinki, Finland is accepting proposals by artists and artist groups for its upcoming exhibition.
The exhibition will open in March 2015 and will address the idea of artist’s diaspora as a socio-political experience in our contemporary, so-called “vastly globalized” world. The aim is to focus on the complexities that migratory experiences bring to artistic practices by giving a voice to social realities and knowledge of the contributors to convey their own stories.
What happens when an individual settles away from where s/he initially calls home? Challenges of migration address diverse topics, from collective memory and space to nationalism and racism. The experience is not limited by the distance one has traveled or weather the migration developed by crossing political borders. Our history is formed by the absence, presence, interaction and meaning of stories and we invite you to share yours with us.
Artists of all mediums that have personally dealt with the complexities of the addressed issue – regardless of age, race, nationality, background and nature of their journey – are eligible and welcome to apply.

NODE is an exhibition space that stands in the middle of Aalto University’s Arabia Campus, at the crossroads of it’s different departments. Thought-provoking exhibitions are presented every four to seven weeks. The space will be dedicated to thinking
about social and political situations and experiences as a means of collaboration and participation. With NODE the organizers aim to bring forth material, discussions, artist talks, performances and other modes of discourse dealing with questions of complicity,
awareness, discussing basic assumptions embedded in power relations and further questions that will develop over time.
