Plymouth Arts Centre Christmas commission

Plymouth Arts Centre is inviting artists to submit proposals for a commissioned artwork to be installed in our building this December.

In the lead up to Christmas we want to enliven our building with seasonal spirit and support an artist or collaboration of artists, engaged with contemporary visual arts practice, to develop a new piece of work. Artists can propose new work for any of the public areas, excluding the gallery space and should take into consideration accessibility, the health and safety of our visitors, volunteers and staff and the restrictions of our Grade 2 listed building. The commission must be presented for a minimum of two weeks, in the lead up to and including the Christmas period but could be installed at the beginning of December, depending on the proposed location and production requirements.

PAC is offering a budget of £500 to cover all expenses for production of the work, which must include any travel for site visits and installation, all materials and an artist’s fee. The selected artist/s will be given technical, interpretation and marketing support by PAC staff. They will also be asked to write a short piece for the Plymouth Arts Centre blog about the production of the commission (approx. 400 words).

To apply

Please send your proposal as a pdf or word doc including the following to vickie@plymouthartscentre.org by Midday on Tuesday 21 October (late entries cannot be considered):

• Name and full contact details including email, postal and phone
• Artist CV and up to 3 website links to previous work
• Written description of the proposed work (max. 500 words)
