Master Workshop: Introduction to Icelandic knitting

From 20th of February to 12th of March 2015

This course is designed to give an insight into Icelandic culture and knitting traditions, teach basic knitting techniques, how to knit an Icelandic wool sweater and work with Icelandic patterns.

Taught by experienced knitters in Blönduós in North Iceland, this course is the perfect opportunity to gain craft knowledge while discovering a beautiful culture and nature. After an introduction to the techniques, tools and materials, each participant will develop their own project, accompanied and supported step by step by the tutors.

Textílsetur Íslands, the Icelandic Textile Center, was founded in the town of Blönduós in Northern Iceland.  It resides in the former Women’s College, Kvennaskólinn.  Since 2005, it has promoted Icelandic and international research in the textile field of art and design.

In a friendly environment of cooperation and mutual assistance, all participants will be provided with accommodation, yarn for samples, tools, teaching materials, an introduction to Icelandic language and the opportunity to connect with a new culture as well as new craft technique. You will stay at the Textílsetur Íslands Residency in Blönduós with access to facilities for spinning, weaving and a studio.
