Announcing Engaging Artists, a six week Summer 2014 residency program hosted byhttp://moreart.org"> More Art in partnership with the http://avcenter.org/">Artist Volunteer Center and http://www.judson.org/">Judson Memorial Church.

Engaging Artists will connect artists with homeless populations in New York City, offering hands-on volunteer opportunities and weekly workshops to enrich the artists' existing studio practice.

Artists who are concerned with socially conscious issues and are committed to forming a deeper relationship to one of the city's most vulnerable populations, the homeless, are encouraged to apply.

Selected artists will participate in weekly art-related volunteer opportunities with the homeless through partnerships with organizations such as http://art-start.org/">Art Start, http://www.commonground.org/">Common Ground, and http://www.bowery.org/">The Bowery Mission. The volunteer experience will be enriched by an artist talk by upcoming More Art artist, http://moreart.org/projects/andres-serrano/">Andres Serrano, and weekly workshops at Judson Memorial Church with professionals in the field, as well as artists, curators, and activists. The six-week residency program will be connected to their studio practice, encouraging the production of artwork that is informed by this unique program, which will culminate in an exhibition of the work made during this time.

Speakers include:

Andres Serrano (artist), Caroline Woolard (artist), Hunter Reynolds (artist), Heather Stoltz (artist), Travis Laughlin (Director of Education at the Joan Mitchell Foundation), Annelie McGavin (curator), Kristian Nammack (curator), Manon Slome (curator), Leaders from Picture the Homeless, A leader from Common Ground, James Macklin (Director of Outreach at The Bowery Mission), and http://moreart.org/engaging-artists/">more to be announced.

Artists will be able to submit proposals for a project at the end of their residency, and selected projects will be funded by More Art to allow the artist to produce his or her own full-scale socially engaged public art project.
