Port City Gallery is now accepting mail art submissions to be exhibited during the month of July 2014.

During the month of July, Port City Gallery will be hosting an exhibition of mail art submitted by local, national and international artists. The exhibition will be comprised of original artwork created on 4”x6” or 5”x7” postcards and displayed for viewing. Born out of the Fluxus movement of the 60s, mail art exists to playfully bypass standard methods of artwork distribution, to place an emphasis on small works on paper and to use the postal system itself as a medium.  There is no entry fee and this is not a juried show. There is no theme specified for the show and all artwork will be excepted. All items to be exhibited must be received by July 25, 2014.

Submission Details / Requirements

1.     Original artwork created on 4”x6” or 5”x7” postcards (limit 10 per artist or group)

2.     Artist or Group Name (required) and Title of Piece (optional) listed on reverse / post-marked side of postcard

3.     No entry fee.

4.     Not a juried show.

5.     Artwork will not be returned (unless a SASE envelope is provided).

6.     All items must be received by June 30, 2014 to be exhibited in show.

7.     Send all work to:

Port City Gallery
2156 N Williams Ave
Portland OR 97227

Proposals or questions about this exhibition opportunity should be sent via email to DominicB@albertinakerr.org.

About ProjectGrow

ProjectGrow is a fine art and urban farming program serving adults with developmental disabilities located in Northeast Portland. Our program provides a space for those with a wide range of abilities to explore personal expression through an array of artistic mediums, as well as gain skill and experience working on an organic farm with an emphasis on sustainability.

Our studio and working space contains materials and supplies to support art-making in a number of different mediums including acrylic and watercolor painting, weaving and fiber arts, ceramics, sculpture, digital photography, film-making and performance art. Ours is a space where creativity is fostered and supported and where few limits are placed on the projects artists choose to undertake.

ProjectGrow aims to create a shared art experience through connection with other artists in the community and in the greater art world. Trips to galleries and other art studios provide inspiration and encourage engagement and collaboration with fellow artists.

ProjectGrow is one of five programs of Port City, a non-profit organization which supports individuals with developmental diversities. Port City is one of the many organizations of Albertina Kerr Centers, which has strengthened Oregon families and communities since 1907 through a multitude of programs and services for both children and adults.

About Port City Gallery

Over the years, our beautiful on-site gallery has hosted many exhibitions, events, lectures, workshops and concerts.  We have exhibited work created by artists both in and outside of our programs. With a new program structure implemented this year, we are seeking engaging exhibitions from the public to host within our space in order to both compliment and inspire the work created within our studio.

Port City Gallery is located at 2156 N Williams Ave, and open Monday thru Friday, 9AM – 4PM, with extended hours for special events.  Workshops take place each week on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 to Noon.
