Announcing a competition to commission artwork for a permanent exterior canopy for a LEED registered, mixed-use residential development known as Carpenter Square, located at the corner of 17th & Carpenter Streets in Philadelphia's Graduate Hospital neighborhood.Carpenter Square sits just North of Washington Avenue and two blocks West of Broad St. The project consists of a 1,000 sq. ft. outdoor plaza, a 2,000 sq ft. L-shaped commercial space with six condominiums above and 11 townhomes. Carpenter Square will incorporate high-quality, modern design, eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient systems and conscientious construction management strategies. The building material palette includes a black colored brick, metal siding, black steel, composite siding (dark wood color) and a fiber cement panel system in subtle shades of light gray. The canopy will be incorporated directly onto the mixed-use building and its placement limited to the interior of the plaza at the corner of the development.
