DEFIBRILLATOR PERFORMANCE ART GALLERY is now accepting proposals for our third annual RAPID PULSE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART FESTIVAL (RP14) to be held JUNE 5-15, 2014. RAPID PULSE aims to represent a wide range of styles and forms of performance art. Contextualizing performance within visual art, RAPID PULSE embraces artists who look to the body, objects, space, and time for inspiration, research, and practice. We are committed to invigorating CHICAGO by bringing to the city artists of exceptional calibre from around the world while also supporting local artists. Dynamic programming, decidedly fearless and unique, aims to provoke thought and stimulate discourse surrounding performance art.

This year we are soliciting applications to fit within a set structure: performances of 30 minutes or less, durational work in our window spaces, or works in public. other proposals will be considered but preference will be given to works that fit these qualifications. We are also taking applications for our video program, focusing on performances for the camera in which the lens is an integrated element, or works that are impossible to present live. Preference will be given based on these criteria. we regret that RAPID PULSE is not able to pay artist fees or travel expenses. However, five nights of humble accommodation and one daily meal will be provided. Accepted artists will also receive a printed catalog and photo/video documentation. We will notify applicants the first week of JANUARY 2014, allowing six months for accepted artists to seek funding opportunities.

The curatorial committee for RAPID PULSE 2014 consists of CHICAGO MUSEUM of CONTEMPORARY art curatorial assistant, STEVEN BRIDGES; curator and performance artist, JULIE LAFFIN; MA candidate in arts history and administration at the SCHOOL of the ART INSTITUTE of CHICAGO, GIANA GAMBINO; and DEFIBRILLATOR founder and director, JOSEPH RAVENS.
