.Big Idea: Uncommon Thread Wearable Art Show is a national competition that seeks the very best in wearable art. Since 2007 Uncommon Thread has fostered a respectful and accessible environment for artists and audience alike by providing a stunning venue and an excited atmosphere to showcase talent from across the country. Uncommon Thread is a visually captivating presentation of art accompanied by inventive musical collaborations, lighting, set, and costume design, and modern dance. This year's competition will award $1000 to the wearable artist with the best design at the LSU Museum of Art on October 19, 2013, selected by juror Anthony Ryan Auld. The deadline for entry is September 29 at midnight.

Theme: This year’s theme is Carte Blanche, a convenient, French phrase us English speakers toss about when we want to give someone a blank check to do whatever they want. Uncommon Thread is applying that theme of freedom to this year’s show with the added emphasis on the “blanche” or color white. The challenge is to create a full garment wearable piece of art that is primarily white—minimal accent colors are allowed—that demonstrates the sculptural, narrative, and/or technical possibilities of wearable art.

Juror: Project Runway All Stars Winner and Season 9 Designer, Anthony Ryan Auld, returns to his hometown of Baton Rouge to juror the 2013 Uncommon Thread Wearable Art Competition. Auld earned his degree in textile merchandising in 2010 from the http://www.huec.lsu.edu/" target="_blank">LSU School of Human Ecology. He is also the founder of, ROAR, which aims to empower anyone met "by life's adversity."

Latest Information: As the September 29 entry deadline draws closer US artists have another reason to enter the Uncommon Thread Wearable Art Show 2013: Carte Blanche. Through at partnership with Expanded Draught, an international Artist collective Based in Galway City since 2006, garments accepted in the US show will automatically be entered into the international competition in Galway, Ireland in 2014. This new partnership will bring the collaborative, engaging, and innovative aspects of the US show to an international audience, giving participants another opportunity to utilize the time and energy they put in their art work.
