Testílsetur Íslands / The Icelandic Textile Center will soon finalise our resident artist placements for a special skill-sharing residency program over the the winter months of 2015 + the spring months of March, April, May 2016.

Our program brings together international textile aritsts that work with both contemporary and traditional methods. We are seeking artists who are interested in developing new work, research, or developments in their practice. We accept applications from emerging, middle career, and established textile artists.

In order to create an environment of skill sharing amoung our winter and spring residents, we ask applicants to include a proposal for an on-site workshop (in addition to the required project description). This is simply to foster an opportunity for interested artists to learn from each other while in residence through skill-sharing. The workshop can be anywhere from 2 hours to a full day in duration, depending on the idea. Artists do not have to have specific teaching experience, but will need a willingness to share and participate.

We are the best equipped artist residency in Iceland for textile and fiber arts, with 3 shared studio facilities; weaving room with looms, dying studio, and general shared studio. The rich textile history of the region is reflected in the Textile Center’s history as a former womens finishing school and the current large scale embroidery work in residence: Vatnsdælur Tapestry.
