CAM Raleigh, a new museum of contemporary art and design in Raleigh, North Carolina, is accepting
submissions of contemporary artwork to be included in a Map-themed exhibition. CAM Raleigh intends
to include a broad range of artistic practices and is particularly interested in proposals that are clear
and concise, present innovative and engaging ideas, and intend to draw a diverse group of participants
and visitors.

Exhibition summary:

MAP (working title) will examine the shifting concepts of maps and mapping through the work of 25+
contemporary artists. The exhibition will move the conversation beyond the traditional application of
cartography to explore how the fundamental idea of a ‘map’ is changing- delving into such ideas as
mapping the self; capturing analytic snapshots of contemporary life; recording movement across time;
and the reciprocal way in which maps affect contemporary language and concepts of space. MAP will
explore the way in which artists act as both documentarians and influencers of both our shared and
personal landscapes. MAP is being planned for winter of 2013/2014 and will be on display for
approximately fifteen weeks.

Artworks chosen for the exhibition will:

• Explore ideas of ‘maps’ as described above, either through traditional media or new media
• Engage our visitors physically as well as intellectually through interactive design
• Vary in scale, from room sized projected environments to smaller more intimate objects
• Be available for display between late 2013 and early 2014.

Submission Guidelines:

Submissions accepted no later than August 15, 2012. Interested Artists, Designers or Collectors
should submit the following for initial review:
• Artistic statement with a title and description of proposed artwork. Please note if the artwork
exists or is a proposed site-specific commission
• Examples of artworks that demonstrate the artistic concept (digital images) and a coordinating
list including titles, dates, media, dimensions
• Technical and installation requirements for the proposed artwork (be specific and realistic about
what you need and what you will provide)
• Preliminary budget for proposed artwork (creation, shipping, etc)
• Artist’s CV or Resume with current contact information for the owner of the proposed work
• List of potential sponsors or partners for the exhibition
