You may have seen the beautifully produced CD of Ring Ring Bell or perhaps have already downloaded one of the bellish ringtones onto your phone.  Now Artmusic is getting ready to present the final elements of the project in live performance and film:  a celebratory culmination of the 6 months project in which bell sounds of all kinds and bell stories have been collected from along the High Street from Aldgate to Bow.

Artmusic’s ‘Ring Ring Bell’ is one of 17 arts and heritage projects commissioned by Tower Hamlets as part of the High Street 2012 initiative, an ambitious programme to enhance and celebrate the ribbon of London life that connects the City at Aldgate to the Olympic Park at Stratford.  (http://www.highstreet2012.com">www.highstreet2012.com)

A wide variety of bell sounds and stories have been collected and recorded for the project.  Fragments of these have been woven together to create two new ringtones and a soundscape: evocations of the High Street, experienced through the sounds of its bells.  The ringtones and soundscape are free to download from Artmusic’s website: http://www.artmusic.org.uk">http://www.artmusic.org.uk.

High Street 2012 culminates in June 2012 with a Summer Safari: 3 days of events on and around the A11.  For this festival of celebration Artmusic will present two live performances featuring bells of all kinds from the local area.  Composer and lead artist Helen Ottaway says “Ring Ring Bell is essentially a recording project but we always wanted to end with a burst of live ringing. We’d like to invite people to come along and ring their bells with us.  Whether or not you’ve been involved in the project so far, bring your bell along and join in the ringing.  To get involved email info@artmusic.org.uk or phone 01373 467201.”

Central to Ring Ring Bell’s finale will be the premiere screening of Bronwen Bradshaw’s film of the project.  Bronwen was a student at Queen Mary and lived in Mile End and Bow so has a strong personal connection with the area.  Bronwen has also worked with Artmusic before as the filmmaker for Palace Intrusions, Artmusic’s year long public art project in Wells in Somerset for which she produced 12 films.
