We are happy to announce FACETS 2012-2013, an International Choreography  Residency for 15 young choreographers from all over the world. This programme is scheduled to be held between December 5, 2012 to January 23, 2013 in Bangalore with an optional break during Christmas and New Year.

FACETS is meant to provide a supportive system to young and emerging choreographers from around the world to develop original work. It will offer choreographers an interdisciplinary approach while creating their piece. They will be mentored by an international faculty with considerable experience to develop strategies that may help the choreographers realise their ideas and projects in a creative environment, free of financial constraints. It will  work as a collective with common technique classes, exploratory and feedback sessions, with separate production rehearsals to meet each individual choreographer's needs. The residency will also provide with an opportunity to work with collaborators in the field of digital arts, music and light design. There will be scope for group devising and course corrections during this period.

The residency,  located in Bangalore, which has today become a strategic geopolitical and cultural centre, will offer a unique opportunity for emerging choreographers to explore both contemporary trends and specific cultural traditions and navigate the difficult terrain of finding a unique voice and vocabulary in the interconnected world. Further, trans-national and trans-cultural collaborations could result as a knock on effect of the initiative. The programme will provide an opportunity to establish career-changing relationships and forge new collaborations and partnerships among artists as well as organisations, thus infusing fresh dynamism within dance networks across the globe that include South and South East Asia, Australia, Europe and Africa.

The driving force behind the programme is the desire and need for a young generation of choreographers to reach out from their regular context of work and develop dance works for relatively uninitiated audiences. The Attakkalari India Biennial and particularly the potential performances as part of the Sanchaari Tour will offer such an opportunity. This will also help them present their works on a larger and more public platform.
