The Art at Zero KM residency focuses on the relationship with a well-defined territory: the woods and lakes of the Alto
Vergante. The landscape and history of this geographical area characterize the residency in a definitive manner, marking
its difference from a the city-type residency in a place like Milan or Rome, where inputs are generated by museums,
galleries and established artistic circuits. Here, the inputs will originate from folk memory and from the relationship
with the nature and the youths of the area. Normally an artist creates in the solitude of his/her atelier, but since our
residency is envisioned as a formative experience, we aim at the artistic and dialectic exchange amongst youths, to help
them develop a critical conscience. The target audience of our residency are young people who are still not part of an
established arts scene and who need to reflect on their work and future creatively.
Art at Zero KM can be envisioned both as the starting point for developing and enhancing individual artistic skills and
as a tool aimed at supporting the work of emerging, young artists. The residency provides for a series of workshops with
other artists; learning laboratories for specific techniques and materials; the making of an art piece as the product of a
collaborative experience. The artists will operate as tutors, guiding the creative youths in developing a new awareness
through the apprehension tools aimed at creating new artistic perspectives and introducing their work into the
contemporary art world.
