Through That Which is Seen at Root Division
Curated by: Alexis Arnold and Lauren Hartman
Exhibition Dates: June 6-23, 2012
Deadline for Submission: March 19th
Root Division invites artists investigating the diorama through all genres, to submit work for an exhibition entitled Through That Which is Seen.
Through That Which is Seen will represent a range of interpretations of the diorama on all scales. We aim to exhibit pieces borrowing from museums’ use of the diorama as a means to inform and educate to works that turn the more conventional notion of diorama on its head. From natural history displays to shoebox book reports, the word diorama often conjures memories from childhood. However, dioramas can be found dotted throughout our daily lives. Think about storefront displays, televisions, and medicine cabinets, to name a few. Does a shower become a performative diorama when in use? Or a car? The co-curators are open to reviewing any and all iterations of possible interpretations of dioramas.
