Frere Independent is inviting artists to apply for the upcoming exhibitions:
Open Portfolio Paris & PooL Art Fair Miami

Open Portfolio has a unique format. Selected artists bring portfolios, computers and original artworks to present to the public directly. The artists do no have a booth or a hotel room. Instead, they show their work on tables set up as a large salon.

The New York edition of Open Portfolio held at the Chelsea Art Museum was followed by a large exhibition on view until September 2. Following the three day interactive salon, curator Elga Wimmer selected works from each participating artist to remain on display during a month long exhibition in the museum's second floor gallery, offering the thirty plus international artists a rare opportunity to present their work in a dynamic New York museum setting.

Open Portfolio Paris is presented by the heart galerie at a leading art fair. The project will then benefit from the advertising dynamics of Frere Independent, the heart galerie and the host art fair.

The deadline to apply for Open Portfolio Paris is September 16, 2010.

The simple, modest approach of the PooL Art Fair offers an exciting alternative to the "art fair" experience. Art dealers, gallery owners, curators, collectors and the general public have a unique opportunity to discover the work of unrepresented artists, to meet them and interact with them directly.

At PooL Miami, each artist, or group of artists, will use the hotel's guest rooms as an exhibition space, creating an intimate setting. The show will be comprised of artists, artists' collectives and curators. Hence, the fair will serve as an invaluable resource for the artistic community and the general public. Our goal with the PooL Art Fair is to provide the public with access to art, while encouraging them to support and meet these emerging artists. It is also a meeting ground for artists to take advantage of all networking opportunities that the fair provides.

Although there is a tradition in France of independent artist's fairs, Pool has lead the path in this area of contemporary art exhibitions in the US. Inspired by Courbet's famous - Salon des Independants -, PooL extends the tradition here with success.

Frere Independent is a not-for-profit art organization that provides new avenues of dissemination and widespread visibility to emerging and independent artists who do not currently have gallery representation.
