About
Trained as architect in Germany, Italy and Canada, I have been working in the interstice between art and architecture for the past 10 years. The guiding interest generating my work is the spatial implication of our senses, desires and means of expression. Within this context my work has been independently and collaboratively transgressing media while the focus on architecture as a three dimensional material environment has remained in the center of attention.
In 2002 I founded normaldesign as an interdisciplinary platform based in New York City, which I have been leading as a professional design practice since 2004. My architectural work has been noted through competitions, publications and exhibitions, most prominently the entry to the World Trade Center Memorial in New York (2004) as one of 8 finalists out of 5201 international entries, and the winning competition entry for the Africa Centre, South Africa (2007). Built works include the renovation of the residence of Brazilian artist Vik Muniz (2005), Spier Biennial for Contemporary South African Art, temporary exhibition halls, Cape Town, SA (2007), and Hendershot Gallery, New York (2010).
I have further worked in an ongoing collaboration, Trialogue, with Israeli video artist Adi Shniderman and Israeli choreographer Ella Ben-Aharon for the past 4 years on an exploration on interdisciplinary notions of space, with performance/installations at HomeBase Harlem, the Puffin Foundation, Joyce SoHo, and Makor/92nd St Y, New York, among others.
