Cultivate began as an art project centered around creating a community garden in the spring of 2007. Many people participated in planting the seeds (at an art opening) and were given a chance to participate in the process of the garden. There was no chosen spot for the garden to go at the conception of the project. After choosing a piece of land on the university campus that ultimately didn't work out, the garden became mobile.
