Though institutionalization in art and design is a necessary evil - all of my inspirations have come from sources that have a way of going against and challenging established traditions. My work is a combination works of different subject matter and influences and is meant to showcase irreverence, energy and attitude. That combined with my interest in contemporary culture and political science. Inspiration is also drawn heavily from the social cultures of hip-hop, goth & glam/punk - rock, all which are fueled by (but not limited to) mockery, shamelessness, inventiveness and audacity.
My work is funny. But like all profound comedy it is a humor mixed with tragedy. It’s a savage cocktail of hope tinged with anger; a tale of a disillusioned youth challenging accepted narratives passed down by the status quo. Surreal moments, inebriated situations, powerful gestures, recognizable iconography—all these situations captured and designed by me - then projected back out, directly in your face.
Currently my photographs will be a featured element to the architectural designs of Victor A. Johnson’s public art as apart of the public works project launched by the F.T.A, SEPTA and the City of Philadelphia - “Art in Transit Project” (http://www.theelseptaatwork.com/ArtInTransit.html). Recently my work has been included in the 2007 International Caribbean Arts Fair in New York - NY
