I allow my work to evolve or devolve till it generates surprising results. In general, however, my methodology is definite and specific. The paintings are made by troweling cement over canvas. After surface preparation and transformation, one forgets for a moment its origin, banality and complexity. The object is to realize the power and beauty of a simple image. Newer pieces are inspired by recent advances in warped geometry, grand unified theory and other mundane or topical concerns. I deploy nonart materials to challenge conventional practice and perception of elegance. Place, space, time, behavior and identity are explored.- Mariano Del RosarioMariano Del Rosario's "What Time Is It?" reveals one collision between societal mainstreams and their farthermost tributaries. In the center, Del Rosario places a globe containing a mechanical clock that ticks in Newtonian measures. But in "backward" outposts, only roosters keep time. Or is it Forward? Traveling with Einstein at the speed of light, time can stand still. In creative space and dreamtime, moreover, all systems simultaneously fly.- Arlene Raven, Art Historian
