For the past three years my work as an artist has focused on the limits of humanity in regards to nature. I often prefer to explore a particular boundary or divide. Much of my work has employed canines as symbols of the boundary between the wild and the domestic. Dogs are particularly interesting to me because they occupy a unique space in between the human and the animal worlds. For example, I have worked with dog breeders, conducting interviews to examine issues of domesticity and anthropomorphism. Most recently, my work has come to focus on the future. Will the divide between the human and the animal continue to expand? If yes, what will be the consequences for humans? For animals? I have been creating and photographing a series of garments that represent fictional artifacts of a possible future. These works cobble together various symbols from the animal and the human worlds to invite a personal meditation on our collective human trajectory.
