Re-imagining space: Inserting new perspectives

Reimagining space:Inserting new perceptions within existing structures How we view and perceive space is considered fixed and certain but actually it is quite possible that place as we know it is unknowable and intangible. As we move through space we work on fixed assumptions that the maps that guide us are accurate, but it is plausible that these maps are simply the best way to represent space for one person. And hence these maps do not match the individual ways in which we view and feel particular places. My artistic practice is about inserting a new freedom within the demarcation of space. Using colour and the body as a way to navigate and feel a particular space, I insert a new perception and form of map-making within existing architectural structures. This provide a discussion point, on how map making can maintain dominant masculine way of seeing and being within place that, encourage us to see place from a particular standpoint. It is hoped that my artistic practice creates a sense of lightheartedness and beauty as it explores place from the sensations of the body and the intuit mind. My work aims to re-tell a feminine perspective into that which has been discarded, to reinsert a feminine touch, into the science of the masculine tradition of map making.
