Greetings From the U.S.A.

Contemporary A m e r i c a written by A. J. Dade Contemporary America contributes mightily to the world at large, and most of us know that America's ever evolving creative inventions lead the rest of the world. Jazz and Blues music, for example, continue to offer a world wide audience creative innovation by way of the performing arts, and worldwide avid fans have been made long ago. Beloved in Asia, the Japanese can't seem to hear enough live jazz music. Cotton Clubs have recently opened in Japan and across Asia, that replicate the original Cotton Club of yesteryear, one of New York City’s earliest, exciting jazz showplaces. Fast forward now to the New York city urban landscape, where we can find the up to the minute, Hip Hop Culture. A contemporary American Hip Hop culture that young people the world over have come to know and identify with. The lifestyle is inventive with accompanying signature style clothing, music and dance. Hip Hop, invented where else but right here in America. Flipping, and last seen twirling out of Hip Hop culture. American athletes have developed the whirling, spinning, twirling and completely flipped out Break Dancing. Still, in its youth, break dancing has nevertheless had time to refine itself. Free styling, improvising on the whirling, whizzing fly by - each move executed with precision, speed, daring, and with a tremendous amount of physical flexibility. Breakers dazzle their audiences with fast speed twirling, their spinning techniques completely astonish. Dancers improvise upside down. On one hand, they turn and spin on head, neck and shoulders. Young, superbly fit dancers who then faint into a wind up. Spinning into a whirling field of energy, breakers do a forward series of flips before an amazed audience of onlookers. Cranked up twirls. Full splits and flips. Breakers hurling themselves while spinning, this way, then that way, accompanied by American music of course. Loud and booming Michael Jackson recordings and Disco beats only add to the intense excitement of the moment. Dancer’s freestyle, improvising as they go, and a fiercely competitive edge inspires and instigates excellence in the dancers who are to follow. Breakers form an awesome brotherhood of shared talent. The joys of solidarity are obvious, as there is a performance spectacle of complementary physical prowess. Dazzling showmanship and improvisation, performed for your amazement, whether the breakers are male or female. Contemporary America has given us yet another pearl. Another whirl of wonder and invention to amaze us, New York style. Our break dancers are magnificent, shining examples of youthful, contemporary Americans that we can be extremely proud of. They represent us well. They add to American popular culture, and world culture, in amazing, thrilling ways. These break dancers are fine examples of dazzling contemporary American youth who possess great physical fitness and daring. Overwhelmingly American dancers (one is Bulgarian), performing in front of an amazed audience of Christmas shoppers, subway commuters, and other onlookers in midtown Manhattan can be gawked at for free. If you are fortunate enough to see them perform, you will also see, and appropriately so, a flying of the red, white and blue colors of our grand, old American flag, in these twirling, whirling, fly by images. Breakers, performing for their own amazement, and for public entertainment at 34th Street, Herald Square in New York City, Autumn, 2005 and Spring, 2006.
