Scenes from Venice

While living in Venice, I did not have a personal studio or proper facilities to oil paint whenever I pleased. I took this this as an opportunity to indulge my desire to work small. In the little sinking city, I became interested the surrounding architecture and the themes that it evoked -stability versus decay, modernity versus antiquity, etc.- and my relationship as a human to these structures. I also was very interested in the medium of egg tempera and worked to exploit and explore line and simple color relationships, which egg tempera lends very well to.
