The Mapping Room
Mapping the Melbourne Fringe Festival I created a drawing box out of an old fridge. Removed the cooling elements, took off the front door and created a video anchor from which to hang a recording device. Inked up tennis balls were then placed on previously printed maps of inner city Melbourne which lined the fridge interior. I then drove to destinations on the fringe festival circuit dipping the balls in ink at each stop so that they didn’t run dry. Places to stop were not decided upon ambiguously but rather themes were developed. Map One is ‘The Ladies map: Sissies, sluts, bitches and chickies’ a visitation to all the venues which hosted shows referring in some way to women in the title of the show (Please see sheets with visiting order outlined). Map Two was ‘The Throat Journey: Gasp, chuckle, sing, roar’ Map Three was ‘The Jesus Connection: Moses, Josiah, Revelation, Armageddon, Divine’ and finally Map Four was ‘The Light Journey: Electric Neon, sunshine, moonlight, bulb.’ http://headquarters.org.au/index.php?/art-time/-the-mapping-room
