About

Jimi Hendrix once said that, “Music is my religion.” to me this is the central idea that epitomizes my artwork. However, unlike doctrinal religions, music requires no central dogma. This is what allows an individual to grow spiritually as they encounter new music. To me music is the last true spiritual refuge of mankind. I think most people can relate when I say that no matter what happens, we can always turn to music for solace and comfort.

Émile Jaques-Dalcroze, who developed a method of learning and experiencing music through movement called eurhythmics, once wrote, “Musical sound acts directly on the soul and finds an echo there because, though to varying extent, music is innate to mankind.” As individuals we may all have different tastes in musical styles, but it servers the same universal function, to help transcend our tribulations and  enrich our triumphs.  I believe this is why most of us need music, because it helps us get through the pressures of our day. Could or would anyone dare imagine a without music?

I do not consciously conceive what I’m drawing. I find that I am much more comfortable when I allow the energy from music, which can moves one to sing or dance, to guide me though the creative process. While this is going on I can detach myself, like a shaman during an out of body experience, and delve in to the collective subjective experiences taking place all around us. these inner psychological experiences take place everywhere and are imbedded into every social situation. Desires, lust, fear, insecurity; these are some of the energies that I draw inspiration from.

These energies manifest in the form of expressions of color or even “creatures”, which inhabit the inner subjective worlds. These energies allow me to produce the meditative environments in which these creatures dwell. As a result my drawings are like dreams, in the sense that since I don’t know what I’m drawing, I have to interpret them when I’m finished. By drawing inspiration from the energies that permeate our culture, and delving into the collective unconscious in a public setting, I have been able to collect some of the most beautiful and unsettling creatures of the collective human psyche.
