"Through painting I explore the way in which people impulsively characterize one another. The people depicted are transformed into archetypes for whom the viewer can create a history. I try to guide the fabrication of these stories through subtle expression and dynamic abstraction. I replace parts of the physical environment with an abstraction of light and color that compositionally and emotionally anchor the work.
