This installation was at the Parking Gallery in Johannesburg, the space was in fact a basement parking lot storeroom, once painted and lit properly it because magical. The fishing line is woven into a grid across the room and towards the center, above the grid balances a bowl with a live goldfish in it. My tools are scale and space. I look to create environments into which a viewer will be absorbed. The process of my work is extremely important to me and I only really begin to get a sense of the work once I’m in the space and the process has begun. I usually begin with a core concept and a material that I feel works as a symbol for that concept, I tend to use the same material or object en masse.
