“There is no danger of me getting stuck, because with each line I draw, hundreds more wait to be drawn. That is the circle of knowledge with the ring around it, you enlarge the inner circle, and the outer becomes greater. No end.” --Gego
Brant M Watson draws lines from point A to point B then repeats. His adherence to these guidelines, aided by tools similar to Marcel Duchamp’s 3 Standard Stoppages presents a continual sequence open to infinite spectrums of possibility, cut short by the boundary of shape or material dimension. In other words, Watson has barely scratched the surface.
At this point in his career the majority of his production are drawings made from blue color pencil lines meticulously drawn and redrawn along the edge of awkwardly constructed tools. These drawings are hypnotic and semi-mechanical. However, errors consistent with humanistic breakdowns in the process of hand-drawn compositions show that there is a deficiency in the mechanical, imperfection in meditation, and a blemish to the most automatic of repetitions. The error is encouraging; it provides a glitch within a perfectly simple concept and reasons to continue with no end in sight.
