“A hybrid mix of Sophie Calle and Vito Acconcci” – Lisa Radford, artist
“The love child of Bill Henson and Tracey Emin” – Kate Just, artist and lecturer
My current practice encompasses installation, photography, text, light, sound and video, resulting multi-sensory and “experiential” artworks.
I am interested in the idea of connection and intimacy, between objects, people and places. Specific moments/experiences/memories from my life are translated into personal spaces for the viewer to physically and emotionally engage with. Throughout my experimental practice I am exploring the human condition through themes of love, home, want and need.
My work is often attempting to show the beauty in simple things and an appreciation of smaller things often over looked in our society, such as video installation: A Single Gesture 2008, where the videos are like single beautiful moments existing within this discarded and overlooked object (cardboard box).
This appreciation of the everyday is also represented in installation: A Home For Us 2007, where a replica of a relatively ordinary and plain lounge room was constructed and accompanied by the warm inviting sound of a couple chatting inside.
Through representation of the personal I aim to create a universal and common experience that most people can relate to. By using the image of my own face projected onto a pillow, Sleepless 2008 explores the common and familiar experience of being awake at night unable to sleep.
My practice aims to show the importance of everyday emotions and experiences and give these a space to be contemplated and closely observed.
