Arts and Conversation, a project curated by Katerina Valdivia Bruch,
is a series of talks between invited artists, curators, arts managers,
art critics and the general public.
The sessions are about research and process of creation in contemporary arts, but also about contemporary art discourse. Conceived as a public meeting about art, the audience has the option to get in touch directly with the invited participants and herewith know a little bit more about their oeuvre or research matter.
The invited participants are all currently developing work in Berlin, so that most part of the presentations will be about an ongoing project.
PRESENTATION DETAILS
Thursday, JUNE 5 7 PM
Arts and Conversation /Mariana Viegas Location: Choriner Str. 85
Mariana Viegas will talk about her work - on photography and video - that addresses the construction of green areas in the cityscape as a form of primal ecology. Viegas work investigates cities as different as Lisbon, New York and now recently Berlin, taking on different layers of perception - historical, ideological and other - that take form in parks and vegetable gardens and its implication on city planning.
The exhibition project HACK.Fem.EAST seeks to present experimental and artistic practices of artists and activists working in digital networks in Eastern Europe. Main topics are media, art and hacking. In the 14 rooms of the Kunstraum Kreuzberg /Bethanien (Berlin, Kreuzberg) 12 networkks of women introduce their work, their strategies and their aims in the form of media and Internet art projects, performances, network platforms, software development, artistic coding, etc. The result is a "network of networks".
At 20.00 o'clock on Monday, June 9th the networkers of HACK.Fem.EAST - Tatiana Bazzichelli and Gaia Novati - will introduce the exhibition to the visitors and participants of the NEW LIFE BERLIN Festival with a psychogeographic tour held at the outset of the project. Including Creative Cocktails and Walking Aperitivo. Introduction: Katerina Valdivia Bruch.
Audiovisual performance with two video projectors and sampler.
We experience all nuances of speech, laughter, song, sighs, screams, babble and whispers. We hear material sounds, all those jangling, crackling, scrunching, popping, scraping, scratching, squeaking, ringing, jingling, smouldering, buzzing, whizzing, pounding, rattling, creaking, gushing, trickling, zipping, whining and weaving sounds that surround us. What otherwise remains hidden away in that big sizzling kettle of noise can be singled out and uncovered. The tiniest sound can be escalated into something monumental: the heart beats like a drum, the clock rages on, pounding, blood thuds through our veins like a surge. The inaudible can be made audible: the language of an ant, a blade of grass, a rock. Completely new sounds can be created, all the vibrations, friction, gyrations in a little-known world.
Images, contents and acoustics merge, forming a new entity, an autonomous art.
The artistic group OIO, composed by performer and visual artist Erika Matsunami and composer and musician Antonis Anissegos, will present an audiovisual installation about their last project entitled “Trans+” for which they have worked with installation and visual artist Takahashi Kyota. OIO has been part of the parallel programme of Re-Imagining Asia at the House of World Cultures in Berlin.
