Hello, I am Lucilla. I am contributing in the role as a Catalyst in The
Flash Job Campaign from June 1st - 15th. Throughout this project I will dedicate my
blog to the stories, FAQ's and tips and tricks and I might have. My first
contribution is to publish the text I submitted in my application for the project.
Among the eleven Catalysts and the two writers (from the Project "Open Dialogues")
we agreed to share our application-texts, since this seems like a fair way to start
our relationship.
DESCRIBE YOUR REASONS FOR APPLYING, AS WELL AS RELEVANT PAST EXPERIENCES (IF
ANY)
Social interventions as a form of Artistic Social Responsibility concept are
close to my line of practices and I would love to be part of a project that
brings artists interested in expressing their ideas in that very way. In Opole
(Poland) where I live such actions are non existent. I can only witness/ view
them in big centers or abroad (Warsaw, Paris, Amsterdam, Kassel, Venice or now
Berlin Biennale (where I was granted accreditation pass :)). I awaited such an
opportunity for long time to join complex, socially orientated project, learn
form it and introduce its principles to our rickety, regional art environment.
I'm experienced in community projects-art workshops for the youth which is
applicable here. On www.lucillakossowska.art.pl, a film on the workshops can be
viewed. After Serve Art Deserve-new forms in art - workshops circle was
commissioned by ChrzÄ?stowice District Council to enhance art awareness among
the young from villages. Project included: mobile installation Power Station of
Positive Vibration; Ytong sculpting Spring Scent, Land Art Project Forest
Portraits, Forest Spray Action Tree Mural and Ready-made sculpture Trash Babe.
I enclose some photos from the workshops in this application
Berlin is 4 hour drive from Opole, which makes it feasible to join you. Opole
by nature forms a very interesting social environment (people of dual
citizenships and 2 passports : Polish and German) I intend to invite artists
here to "comment" on our specific reality. I'm proficient in English, with good
command of spoken German and good communication skills.
Intervening in troubled social structure need thoughtfulness and imagination, I
belive I have.
DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC PRACTICE
I'm a painter who gradually transforms into an activist and installator in
public spaces. One of my latest installation "Bureaucracy (Made in China)" 2008
gives the inside into the focal point of my interests: socio-political
discourse enriched by the elements of humor and astound as well as
multidimentional in character. Bureaucracy (Made in China) depicts a discussion
on the system of exploitation workforce in China. It also serves as a metaphor
of bureaucratic world; structured and capable to implement in its structures
all and everything...even fallen leaves.
A study " Door to Campfire" is an examle of narrative humor. Here I paraphrased
the concept of "door to the woods" which is very daring to me as it brings
childhood memories of my grandfather who every abstract concept used to
describe as "the door to the woods". On the other way, we encounter here a
situation of intervention into the social aspects of campfire as a gathering.
