About
I am a visual artist based in Dublin. In 2000 I graduated with a BA in painting from NCAD and received my MA Art in the Contemporary World at NCAD in 2007. My research based art practice includes investigations into the areas of animal behaviour, signals, perception and natural phenomenon. I develop my work by investigating behaviours, events and related phenomena, tracing connections and finding associations between scientific explanations and philosophical concepts. This exploratory activity corresponds closely and in unexpectedly fruitful ways with the work of researchers in widely divergent fields. I work intuitively allowing a poetic logic of association to develop and am attuned to the unexpected discoveries and openings up that are necessary for the work of research to take place. In 2008 I was the inaugural recipient of the National Sculpture Factory’s Ireland/Australia Residency Exchange at the University of Tasmania, ArtSpace in Sydney, and Monash University in Melbourne. In December 2009 I was invited to take part in the Mamori Art Lab sound workshop in the Amazon jungle, Brazil. Working primarily with film and video installation my work also includes drawing, sound, text, ephemeral intervention and dialogue with relevant experts. Drawing on material gathered through my research and related fieldwork I reflect upon our connections to each other and our environment. I have exhibited nationally and internationally.
